Things to do in Munnar
Munnar is the most popular hill station at Kerala. It is 130 Km away from the Kerala’s capital Cochin and well connected by road from Cochin and other nearby cities. In this post I will share the things to do in Munnar. If you are visiting Munnar for more than 2-3 days and confuse about what to do in Munnar, you must try some of the activities. Visit Tea Museum:
Munnar is almost synonymous for tea, so your journey will be incomplete without visiting the tea factory. The Kanan Davan (KDHP) tea museum is the oldest tea museum. Here you will get to know how in long back in 1857, one British resident named John Daniel Munro came to Munnar and started tea plantation there. You can witness all the tea machineries along with the history of how Tata group evolved and became one of the major tea estates in the area. Take an Elephant ride:
Elephant safari is one of the most popular activity in Munnar. There are 2-3 elephant camps where you can get 15-20 minutes of elephant safari. The fees are RS. 800 per elephant. (If you ride along with another 1-2 persons, then per head cost will be less)

Take a horse ride or do Sikara Ride at Kundala Lake:
Kundala Lake has awesome view. The Sikara ride in the Kundala Lake is often compared with the Sikara ride of Dal Lake, Srinagar.

Take a Kayak/ Coracle ride in Elephant /Anairangal lake:
Though the Sikara ride at Kundala Lake is most attractive in Munnar, but we found the Coracle ride in Anairangal Lake is equally beautiful. The charges for one Coracle for 30 min is Rs.800.00.

Visit Spice Garden/ Ayurvedic plants :
Though tea gardens are most popular attraction in Munnar, but you can also witness a huge variety of spice tress. The tour ticket is Rs. 100 per person. They will show and explain the use of each plants. I find it very interesting. There is a short video on the spice garden we visited. Please see this-
You can buy spice/ medicine from the shop adjacent to the garden. However be aware, as sometime they can charge higher if you don’t know the prices.

Rejuvenate yourself with Ayurvedic Spa :
There are many places in Munnar where you will get good spa. Most of the good hotel has the facility of Spa. Depending upon your preference you can choose the package.

See Kathakali Dance:
If you want to know about this traditional dance of India, you must visit Pallivasal village. Every day there is one show of 1 hour in the evening from 6.30 pm-7.30pm. The entry fee is 750 per person.

Mountain Hiking:
If you are not travelling with kids (unlike us) then Munnar is one of the best place to hike. In the Idukki village there is some good hiking option from where you can get the panoramic view of Munnar along with Idukki dam.

Take a Jeep Safari:
In Munnar there are lot of option of Jeep Safari. In the Jeep safari, you can see some of the route which cannot be covered with other vehicles. Hanging Bridge, Ponmudi dam, some untouched villages are name of the few. The rate of the jeep safari depends on the bargaining power of you. Generally it starts from 3000-3500 per day per jeep.

Do nothing and relax at Hill view park near Idukki Dam:
This is one of the best places to relax in Munnar. The view is awesome and the place is quite good for relaxing.
